Ah bum

Well I've just finished writing my article for saturday's game against Dagenham and Redbridge, having watched Grays v ECFC live on Sky Sports 1 earlier in the evening. Inevitably, given our recent form and the fact that it was live on TV, we lost and the playoffs are now out of reach (Inglethorpe admitted as much in his post-match interview). It was a struggle to write the article as I desparately wanted to put a positive spin on things but was lacking inspiration. Eventually found some words though.

There is no getting away from the fact this season has ended up being disappointing after such a fantastic start. Now the club can turn to planning for another season in the conference. I just hope that the fans stick with us as I think we're heading in the right direction at the moment. Off-pitch things are looking better and I think AI has some interesting signings up his sleeve for the summer. We don't need to completely rebuild the team in the off-season, but we do need a number of quality players. AI has generally had a good eye for talent so far so I'm hopeful.

The usual reactionaries on Exeweb are spouting off the negativity, but there are also a number of realists on there who know things aren't perfect but still have faith in the current set up. We need to be patient and keep the bigger picture in mind.

As the great Journey once sang:

"Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'"

;-)
